GAMA inauguration dance
GAMA
inaugurations dance
04/10/2018
When
we were in between practicing for the access life America dance, we got an
invite from the committee of GAMA to perform in their inauguration program. We
had to make a plan if we’re going to perform a dance just one month after the
access life America dance. We decided that we would use the main theme from the
access life America dance with some tweaks in the segments and the costumes. We
changed 3 songs and added an entire new segment with new steps, and we just had
one month to practice for this dance. And in between this, we find out that one
of our members had to go the India after the access life America dance, and we
had to find a new member to fill in for him. When we started practicing for the
dance, we are tiring the steps for the new first segment was. We had to use our
full energy a s this was a song depicting the celebration by an army of men
after winning a war, and we had to establish the same amount of energy as the
original dance. We also had to figure out a way in which we could save our energy,
so we can also perform the second segment and the ending sequence. We went from
meeting during the weekends to meeting almost every day of the week. We also
had to figure out the costumes as this a period dance, and we knew the costumes
had to have elaborate designs and patterns. Luckily my mom is a fashion
designer and she was able to come up with a design that was the best for this
time period, and was also comfortable to dance in. Another obstacle we endured
was the sickness of me, my brother, and another group member due to the large
pollen outbreak during that spring. We both did not feel well during the last
days of practice leading up to the dance, and we had to skip some of it. The
sickness was there throughout the performance, and me and brother had to take medication,
so we could perform well. On the day of the dance, our sickness mitigated, but
we were determined that we would not give up on the team and we would be able
to perform this dance. During the event, we were extra drained of our energy after
the first segment, and somehow, we gathered all of our strength to finish the
dance. We felt a sense of relief after the event was over, but my brother’s
sickness lasted for over another 1 week. In the end, I performed one of the
best dances I had ever done, especially considering the fact that I was sick on
that day.
